I’m not doing Halloween this year. I’m going to do some art for nostalgia’s sake, but of my kids only one is still young enough to trick or treat and she will be doing so elsewhere.
Im not giving out candy. I’m going to be “that” house. I feel bad about it, but my choice is to come to the door and be recognized as the trans person of the neighborhood to every conservative parent with children or worse just be seen as a man dressed unconvincingly as a woman which would just be soul crushing. I’m going to get dinner with my two oldest, come home and sit in a dark house and think about what the day used to mean to me. Maybe I’ll game, or watch a movie or a documentary on Halloween.
Maybe next year if the world is somehow more sane and less hateful.
I’m not holding my breath.
