For those unaware, here’s an update on my situation. My family was invited to Germany to visit a
local historic attraction originally built by my wife’s ancestors. After a long plane ride, we spent about 12
jet lagged hours in a small medieval town before heading to bed and being
awoken by frantic texts at 2:00AM local time saying we needed to leave the
country or chance being stuck for thirty days or being quarantined in a US
health facility for two weeks. Our car
was locked behind a steel gate and we had to wake the hotel staff to get out of
the parking lot and drive four hectic hours to Frankfurt to catch a flight back
before the deadline. The tickets were
far from cheap, but we are safely back in the country. That’s the good news.
The downside is that we’ve been asked by the CDC to “self-quarantine”
for two weeks, so we’re stuck. Luckily
we’re stuck AT HOME, but we are still not supposed to leave the house or have
any contact with people.
So, anyway, we are all stuck here safely at home. We’re out the cost of tickets home and
several pre-paid hotels, but hoping insurance will cover some of it. The kids never did get to see what they came
to see in Germany, but I’m sure it will still be there in years to come. I’m going to try to teach myself some new
skills, and I’ve got plenty ‘o commission time on my hands. Maybe I’ll do a live chat or something. I don’t know.
It’ll all be a great story to tell kids when I’m old and can
Oh, and I’ll let you all know if any of us do indeed get
sick, but for now we’re all pretty healthy.
